We have finished two full weeks of school! These amazing kids are learning how to follow our daily routines, follow school and class rules. They are doing great! I am proud of their progress! We are also learning!
Reading:
We have learned that there are three ways to read a book
1. Read the pictures
2. Read the words.
3. Retell the story
We are learning how important it is to be independent learners. We have jobs so that the teacher can work with students in smaller groups. We will use the Daily Five in our classroom so we can grow as readers and writers. The Daily Five includes Read to Self, Work on Writing, Word Work, Listen to Reading and Read to Someone. We have been learning about Read To Self and working to build our stamina in Read to Self.
We know that we read our books the whole time, stay in one spot, use zero voice. They have a goal of 15 minutes. They have made it to 12 minutes.
Alphabet Work
We have been working on learning about letters through our letter poems; Signing our alphabet, and noticing the letters in our names.
We have put together some letters to begin learning sight words(these words are frequent in reading and writing so we work hard to know these words in a snap. The words we are learning right now are "is" "my" "see" and "can"
Writing
We have learned that authors can use pictures, words and labels to tell their stories. We have been practicing how to have details in our pictures. Our goal is to have a 4 star picture.
Math
We are learning about the number 0- to 5. We can show numbers in different ways. We can show them with counters, pictures, tallies and by writing the number.
You can see that your child has been working really hard these first days of school. Give them a big hug! They deserve it!
Home Support
I will from time to time send copies of your child's assessments and some suggested activities for you to support their learning at home. I sent home some information and activities on working with letters. I have also sent home a folder for you and your child to add pictures to them to help them generate ideas for When they are writing.,
Thanks for your partnership!
